Day 84 Journal
Straight
Today’s walk was about as straight as they come. I started in Junction City, on Highway 99E and walked along it all day, pretty much heading due North in a straight line.
It was hot and dry, and the landscape was 100% agricultural – fields of crops and very little else bar Halsey and Shedd, two small towns along the highway.
I managed to enjoy a good deal of my new hobby – reading while I walk – finishing my book before the end of the walk today. I have found this new activity to be of great help to take my mind off the walking which is becoming rather tiresome at this stage. I find that getting caught up in a book helps those miles to fly by a little faster! I will start a new book tomorrow!
As I walked into Tangent, the final destination of the day, I was met by some Rotarians from the Corvallis, Corvallis Morning and Philomath clubs who also provided some welcome refreshments.
Clare had a chance to visit Corvallis today. This is another college town, home of Oregon State University and the Beavers – arch enemies of the Ducks! She said it was a very nice town and found a second hand bookshop to unload some of our books which seem to take up an awful lot of space in the car! (She also acquired some new books too!)
Anyway, one more ‘stage’ until the rest day. While the Tour de France finishes tomorrow, I still have another three weeks - i.e. the length of another full Tour – to go. How depressing. What I wouldn’t give for a bike!
Well, more soon
Love N

Nathan, I've been following your journey from the beginning. You are certainly setting the example of Rotary's motto of "Service Above Self" for all of us. Our Rotary Club from Somerset,PA has proudly sent a check for $1,000 to Rotary International with a notation that this was raised through your efforts with West coast Walk. Keep up the good work. We encourage all clubs to make a contribution.Best of luck with the remainder of the walk. Great job! Hank Parke
Good Morning on your day of rest. John and I really thought about you yesterday as Lance Armstrong claimed his seventh victory on the Tour de France.
We also thought about how the grueling competition for the Tour was motivation for you on your grueling journey and that once the Tour was over it could be a real downer for you. Obviously it has had somewhat of that effect but we know that you are determined.
Hope you get to see some of OSU and Corvallis...it is a lovely college town. John and both of our daughters are Beavers. Oregon is fortunate to have two fine universities so close and fine colleges and universities scattered throughout the state.
We cheer you on.
Best to you both you and Clare.

Hang in there, buddy. There are cooler temps ahead. Did you get your new headphones?
