Day 78 and 79 Journals
HOT
I started off a little later than usual, having firstly had a TV interview from my starting point in Coos Bay.
Soon enough I was on the road and heading towards the destination of Reedsport. Today was extremely hot and by early afternoon the temperature was well above 90 degrees. It was pretty tough going in this heat and there was seldom any shade along the route.
Clare had a chance to visit the Umpqua Lighthouse in Winchester Bay. Having seen several lighthouses over the last few weeks, Clare has become quite an enthusiast and after the walk is completed she will be pursuing this interest further. She is already planning a trip to visit some of Great Britain’s most famous lighthouses so she can compare the different architecture and lighting techniques between the UK and USA. If you have any burning lighthouse questions that you need an answer to, let us know - Clare has built up a staggering knowledge of lighthouse facts and figures and is only too happy to dispense them to needy minds.
By the end of the day I was feeling a little overcome by the heat and was glad to be finished. I had even lost my appetite for a while which definitely means there was something wrong!
After a relaxing evening I was feeling better, particularly as Steve, our host, had recorded today’s stage of the Tour de France so I could watch it without the irritating commercials!
Today we are resting. Clare has just been out for a run and it is another very hot day today. We are told that these temperatures are not normal here at this time of year.
We will be meeting some Reedsport Rotarians as well as doing other exciting things like washing our clothes. Back on the road tomorrow. Four weeks from today we will be finished!
More soon.
